The novelist Ernest Hemingway is one of the most famous and influential writers of the 20th century. The novel The Old Man and The Sea won the Pulitzer Prize in 1953 and the following year he received the Nobel Prize for Literature. Hemingway led an intense and turbulent life: he was married four times, hunted "big game" in Africa, lived in France and Cuba, and participated in both World Wars. In 1961, after he was forced to leave Cuba to the revolution led by Fidel Castro, Ernest Hemingway took his own life in Ketchum, Idaho. Even today, Hemingway remains a legend of modern fiction.
